    Book details

Located in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay lies the isolated island of Forbes, locally known as Uist Skerrie - named so by ship-wrecked Scottish ancestors who took refuge and forged out a life centuries before...

Dr. Bralley Glenn, fresh out of her residency and planning to join a prestigious practice in Baltimore is suddenly served with a rural community binder to practice for four years on the island of her birth - an island she has no memory for, her life blank since before the age of seven.

She is forced to confront her lost memories of childhood as well as deal with the archaic language and customs of the island. Two men capture her attention, a marine biologist who was her island childhood friend and a handsome, mesmerizing visitor, kin to many of the islanders through ancestral lineage. Interlaced in the day to day challenges of her new life are the myths and legends of Uist Skerrie's past and present, of love deeper than human bond and the inconceivable but entrancing lure of the islanders' tales of sea creatures known as selkies, great silver seals of the sea that shape-shift to entrancing, sensual men on land.

Bralley's professional dedication to the survival of the islanders themselves as well as the illogical suspicions of the man that drives her heart's desire, force her to make a decision that could change her life forever...

Ellen S. Cartwright has lived most of her life by the Chesapeake Bay. A native of Norfolk, Virginia, she has written fiction for over thirty-five years. As a professional Registered Nurse, she has had over thirty years of experience. She presently lives in Chesterfield, Virginia with her husband David - a graphic illustrator.

A chance conversation with a co-worker introduced me to this book. A book that I almost decided not to read when I found out it was a "romance" novel. I'm sure glad I decided to read it otherwise I would have missed out on a wonderful story. This book certainly has it's romantic moments (as a male I had to admire the sexual athleticism of some of the male characters) and at it's core it is a love story. However, the story also revolves around a power struggle between the ruling clan of the island and those that have been enslaved by them. Thanks Chrystal for that "chance" conversation at work that introduced me to such a great book. Now, if only the sequel was done...

The title may leave the reader wondering, however, this book is full of imagination and an interesting premise. I was particularly taken with the fact that this is the first novel by the author! Right from the start I knew this book would keep me interested from cover to cover!! The format of the novel makes it an easy read, however, the twists and turns keep the reader from putting it down. It would not surprise me to see this novel on the Best Seller list! I can't wait for the sequel?- there are still questions to be answered.! I can't wait!!

What a quick way to get your mind off everyday grind. A great blend of real life and stuff of other worlds, this book sweeps you along as you forget about laundry, lost socks and groceries. Uist Skerrie leaves you with a willingness to pack up and join the crowd on the ile as they have good looking men, the great outdoors and excitement! Thanks for the get away weekend without leaving my couch! Also recommended: Celtic Riddle / Spider's Web/ A Fire in His Head!

Uist Skerrie has it all - fascinating characters, mysteriously beautiful locale, medical drama and steamy passion. I was instantly swept up in the story and could not bear to put it down until the very last page. You'll end up with bags under your eyes, but it will absolutely be worth it.
