When you have a very bright child, who is well liked at school and voted head boy, you would probably think he would be top of the list for enrolment at the best grammar school in the area. When your husband has a great job, and you're a devoted stay at home mother, it should seem even more likely ... but not when there are 999 other children applying for the same 50 places.Lily knew it would be tough, but never knew just how much until after her interview with The Oaks Principal. That's when the painful truth became known--it wasn't just about how good their son was, but also about how involved they, as parents, were in the community.Shock! Horror! Lily and her husband were letting the side down. And so begins Lily's transformation from blissfully content, non-community minded mother, into a completely obsessed woman on a mission--aided and abetted by her almost equally obsessed friends. All except one friend, who seems to be completely ambivalent to the whole life or death importance of grammar school enrolment. The Battle for Big School is a really fun read, with a good twist at the end. Author, Sarah Tucker, brings the story to life with quite believable characters and a good dose of humour. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.
