Mark Twain described a classic as "a book that everyone talks about but no one reads". I hope this book does not gather dust on an abandoned shelf in some basement. Take it and read; it is rich with history and a chronicle of the atrocities visited on many believers and how so many withstood trial by fire. I recommend it for all believers for it will reinvigorate your steadfastness.

This is a classic that should be required reading for all Americans as these Christian beliefs is what Americans held deeply at the forming of our nation. Christianity has much changed since these days which is sad, but these many many Christians loves Jesus so much they held their head up and went to their death in the most horrific of way, many times singing and praising God. If only some in America still had what these martyrs did! It's an eye opener as the the crusades and so many people like to say Christians committed these murders but The Catholic Church killed these God loving Christians. Great book to open the eyes as to who and what the Catholic Church is at the top.

I've just started reading this book and I know that it's going to change my life. I am so thankful the accounts of precious lives of my brothers and sisters in Christ being recorded and in one book.I appreciate the accuracy of the retelling of their stories. I also appreciate the amount of work the editor put into this book to make it easier to read (language-wise) and for updating it so it includes modern-day accounts of incredible believers.Incredibly encouraging, heartbreaking, and sobering. Every Christian really needs to read this.

A great book of the faith! When satan tries to silence the church, it grows stronger. This book is a great blessing! It causes us to realise that a great price has been paid by saints of the past! We have no idea today in America the horrible persecution that the church has faced. Satan has tried to put the church "out of business" but as these real lives have proven as persecution is faced, God gives grace for us to not give up and back down even when you are staring adversity in the face! Satan is a roaring lion, he is walking about, seeking whom he may devour. You will not regret a moment of reading this book! It is very thought provoking...wold we stand up for Christ's Name if we were in these situations? If we had to face them, He would give us the grace to go thru it! Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, the life!

I confess that I have not read the complete book. Reading about so many Christians martyred in so many cruel ways was too distressing to sit down and read it all. I have read sections of it at different times and will continue to do so periodically. I always wonder if I would have the courage to face such horrific death as so many of these martyrs did.

This is a must have for anyone t hat is serious about wanting to know more of what we will be going through very soon now when the Mark of the Beast hits. It happened before and will happen again. We need to get prepared for it.

Foxe's Book of Martyrs is a great book, but this is an edited version that does not always follow the original. This edition is much more difficult to read than many others available.

The book speaks for itself. It is a simple, readable account of the many martyrs for the faith up to the author's time. Fox was a man converted from Catholicism to Protestantism, and expelled from Oxford because of it. His last edition was some 2000 pages long and very famous in this time. In 1900 or so, it was abridged and the language was modernized by WB Forbush, which, with few changes is this edition. The font is clear and readable and large for this edition. The short biography at the front is very helpful. I highly recommend this edition. As the writer of Hebrews wrote (probably referring to Paul's and Peter's martyrdom), "Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever" Heb 13:7-8 NIV. Our leaders exemplify our Lord's sacrifice for us. They pass on, but he always remains for us to trust in.
