Very good source for Marion County genealogical information - providing you descend from some of the more prominent families.

This is an interesting book. Now don't hold me to this, but my understanding is the author wrote this book about people he knew in Marion County, South Carolina. I believe it was written in 1901 and the author passed away in 1902.In reading the book, there are lots of spelling mistakes which took me a while to get use to. The author was an intelligent man, but he was in his 80's when he wrote it. I picture him having so much to say and knowing he was old, he probably just scribbled down his thoughts and recollections. I am so grateful to him for sharing things with me (the reader) that there is no way I would known any other way.

When this arrived, it was only an excerpt of the full work. I didn't see (and still don't) where it specifically indicates that I was purchasing only an excerpt. When the listing advertised as "A History of Marion County, South Carolina: From Its Earliest Times to the Present, 1901 (Classic Reprint)," I expected to have exactly that - the complete work, especially when the description doesn't indicate anything different.

Read the description carefully (unlike me!) - this is only an excerpt of the complete work. If you want the entire work, this is NOT it.

I have found families on both my mother and father's lines from Marion County who ended up in Texas. This has been extremely helpful to me, even though the Clark families listed in the book are not mine! My Clark's were there but Mr. Sellers obviously did not know them. Oh well, other helpful information makes this book a favorite of mine.

The overall information is good. Most of the family histories are not source cited but contained clues to where you could look for further information.
