    Book details

This book is written with courage and bracing honesty. The author, before she does anything else, shares her own story of pain and confusion, thereby making it clear that she writes from a well of understanding. This is not some abstract checklist of what it takes to be a whole woman; rather, it is a heartfelt guide composed by a woman who has suffered through and survived the very challenges she wants to help other women overcome. Every woman should give this book to at least one other woman, and certainly every mother to her daughter. And it must be pointed out: no man will be the poorer for reading this for a better understanding of how very different a woman's struggles and needs are from his own. This book says, "Woman, heal thyself." The author makes it clear that this must happen first, before a woman can heal others, and that this can only happen by embracing God's healing love. The author's tone is conversational, sometimes even humorous in the midst of calamity. Clearly-recalled details draw the reader into her experiences, teaching through example, and the message of God's omnipresence and faithfulness is brought home repeatedly. There is universally sound advice here for struggling men, as well: " are not the mistakes you make." Xulon Press Every woman should have a mentor or friend they can look to for advice during both the challenging and joyful times in life. Cheryle T. Ricks is that friend and through her conversational style of writing, you feel as if she's right next to you as you read. Her transparency lends authenticity to her life story and credibility to her wise words. You'll walk away from this book feeling as if you've made a new friend. Erika Bennett, Xulon Press Editor

Awesome read, I received this book as a Xmas gift from a co-worker. Last night while enjoying a girl's night at my house I showed the book to one of my sistahgirls she was so captivated by the introduction needless to say we read the book out loud to the end. Of course in between readings we discussed the valid points, we cried out about some of our own personal experiences presently and some of our past experiences that has lead us here today. We even reflected back to our mothers, their mothers behavior with other women in their circle back then we really felt compelled to take a deeper look into ourselves . The author mentioned some of my sistahgirl`s ex co workers in this book fellow Social workers from Baltimore. Thanks for shining the light on this matter, we must pass our experiences on to the next generation..

I received this book from a friend. When I opened the book and scanned I knew I had to continue. This is a book that women and men of all background/age should read and relate to. It takes you from where you've started to where you've been to where you are at this time in your life. To appreciate the trials that where given you to strive and make you the person you see today. A great instance read. I really agree that it should be read by everyone it will keep you going from page to page and show how GOD has his way with all of his children.

Cheryle Ricks used her journey of life and womanhood as a vehicle for me to compare, contrast and better understand some of my experiences as a wife, mother, daughter, working person and spiritual being. The book is an easy read which provides the opportunity to re-read and select the points that are most interesting and as a tool for personal growth. Actually I still find myself revisiting parts and learning something new. Wow, I was left many times with the understanding that I am more alike than different from other women in the world. Most vivid for me is the message of the importance of being a sister to other women and creating time and space for quality relationships with women. I loved the conclusion with lessons for wholeness and unity among women. Lastly, I recommend this book to men as a way to understand the many dimensions of women in their lives. Definitely 5 Stars! Finally! A book to help women by a person with no fancy strings of letters behind her name but a wealth of experience in life with a capital L. Cheryle puts the facts of women's age-long voluntary servitude to family, friends, lovers, church, and workplace in the plain language of example and reflection. It's short, but every sentence contains an insight for people struggling to be effective caregivers while often neglecting their own needs and becoming exhausted and discouraged in the process. Cheryle is the mamma/grandma/pastor/auntie/older sister/best friend you may never have had. She'll tell you the truth, lift you up, and set you down on a path to recognize and respect your personal, unique beauty and talent and introduce you to her own sources of energy and renewal.
