Most Revolutionary War warrants issued before 1855 were for the land in the Military District of Ohio. Later, the warrants could be exchanged for script and used to purchase land in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and, by 1842, any land in the public domain. For Revolutionary War service of three years or more in a State or Continental unit, Virginia veterans or their heirs were offered bounty-land warrants that were exchangeable in the Virginia Military District of Ohio, which was then part of Virginia. This land was located within the present bounds of Ohio and Kentucky, south of the Green River. Records relating to these warrants are available at the state archives of Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky.REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIERS AND THE WIVES OF SOLDIERS WITH TIES TO SWITZERLAND COUNTY INDIANA contains in one volume the various records pertaining to the Revolutionary War soldiers and widows of soldiers who have specific ties to this county. Enlistment and muster information as well as pension applications and land agent records are all listed in alphabetical order for any serious researcher or family member in knowing what records are available and how to locate them among the overwhelming abundance of military records. This book would appeal not only to genealogists but to anyone engaged in military history research.
