I read this book years ago and really liked it. It is the story of a Confederate Civil War soldier and a northern woman who nurses him in prison camp. Has a great happy ending.

Lots of adventure, romance, and war. A confederate soldier on a mission meets a northern lady. The lady and the soldier get to know each other and become friends, much to the dismay of a very jealous northern officer. The northern officer becomes determined to see the confederate soldier pay.It was a very interesting book. It explored topics such as the friendship between men on opposite sides of the war.

    A worthwhile read.

A vivid account of North-South armies in the mountains of western Virginia with fascinating episodes with the local civilians and the guerrillas who were ready to gain wealth and power from the chaos; this is presented through a focus on the respect and then love between a Southern officer and a woman from New England. Parrish is a writer who should be re-discovered.

Just finished the kindle edition last night. I will admit I couldn't put it down, but many of the pages I skimmed over. The story is good, and I would have liked to see more interaction between the Major, the lady and the Captain as opposed to trying to sound out a lot of the southern drawl words as I read them. It was an interesting read, and I'll give it a 3 star rating. I've read better, and definitely read worse.

this book is for those that like fiction, action, romance or civil war. despite the fact that it was written many years ago, it is a great read and does not seem dated.
