In the Heat of the Night by Katherine Garbera is the story of Rory and Meg. Rory is the new firefighter in town & Meg has come home to try and regroup while she gets ready for her next career move. Both have been burned by past lovers because of their careers and each is wary of the other person's career as well as falling in love. Both Meg and Rory were strong characters who knew how to stick their ground, but neither were good at compromising. This story didn't draw me in to the point where I couldn't put the book down, but that's okay. It's nice to have a light read sometimes and by the end I was rooting for Rory and Meg pretty hard. This is the third book I have read by this author, and I will continue to do so because I enjoy her writing style and think she tells a good story. I'd give this one a solid 3.5 stars and may try giving the book before this one a read.

**I received an ARC in exchange for my opinion**Meg's back in her small hometown to regroup, after she fixes up an old home, she's certain to have her own DIY show--finally make her way. Rory is a firefighter from a family of firefighters--trying to make his own way despite the legacy--in a new town to start over. But, they both want the house. The cat and mouse game of vying for the home, plus an attraction, leads to romance. Meg's made it clear she's leaving as soon as the show gets the green light, but Rory wants to settle down. Can they both get what they want? A fire in the barn, and Rory's on duty to find he's rescuing her. It's the reality needed for compromise, embracing love, and starting a life together. It's a great read!

Meg Starling and Rory and O’Roarke have come to Twin Palms FL for opposing reasons. Meg is hoping her renovation of an old home will lead to her own show on HGTV while Rory is looking to escape the memory of a near-disastrous fire and divorce. Their attraction is immediate though cautious on both sides. While their banter is often light-hearted it soon becomes apparent that they have found in each other the only person who can understand and help them overcome the shadows of their past. Only after they each realize that they are each stronger than their fears can they find their future. The author deftly interweaves nuggets for future installments in this delightful series.

Rory comes from a family of firefighters, and he's trying to prove himself. Meg is trying to prove herself as well, after leaving town talking about big dreams of being a star on HGTV and not achieving her goal.Rory and Meg were great characters, they both had some big obstacles to overcome, but they were still drawn to each other and couldn't resist each other. I really enjoyed seeing how they both grew to figure out what was holding them back in life and learn how not to let your fears keep you from doing what you want in life. This was a very fun read. It's always fun to read about hot firemen.

Received an ARC for reviewSweet romance with some emotional drama on both their parts, but it wasn't drawn out. Maybe someday I'll go back and read the first book, but there's no rush.
