If you are creative, with an orderly mind, and can write clear, concise instructions, then you can be a technical writer. This book will show you, step by step, how to turn your talents into a rewarding and highly lucrative writing career!

This inspiring and invaluable guidebook will give you the confidence and information you need to plunge into one of the hottest fields in an industry that is only getting hotter!

Just a few years ago, as a freelance writer, I barely earned enough to fill my gas tank. Today, I write what I want while earning a LOT of money as a Technical Writer ... and you can too!

Whether you are writing the great American novel, the news story of the century, or a Human Resources manual, the ability to put words to paper in a clear, coherent manner is a gift and plays a vital role in society. All forms of writing are necessary for the world to function. Without story-telling, imagination is lost. Without journalism, truth is lost. Without technical writing, skills are lost.

Technical writers are privy to the same joys as other writers with one BIG difference:

Most of them get paid LOTS of money consistently to use their writing talent.

AND YOU CAN DO IT TOO!

Great resource for those looking to get into this exploding field. I highly recommend How to Become a Technical Writer. -- Shadrene E. Howard, Soc. for Tech Comm. Web Site (Contr.)Targets the uninitiated: journalists, English majors, teachers. Punchy, motivational and accurate. The answers are in there. -- Gary Conroy, About.com Tech Writing Guide Less than a decade ago, I was a struggling writer barely earning enough from my freelance work to buy lunch once a month. Then I realized that if I merged my love of technology with my writing skills, I might get more writing assignments. Boy, was that an understatement! Since that time, I have supported myself solely as a technical writer, earning far more than I ever dreamed possible from my writing. This, alone, has been a great gift in my life. But even more, being a technical writer, contrary to what many believe, has made me a better all-around writer. I have written books, a weekly newsletter, and even maintain a web site for technical writers! And my story is not at all unique. In How to become a Technical Writer, I will show you exactly how to expand your creative talents to break into a hot industry that is only getting hotter!

This book is a good guide for technical writing. Bilheimer explains the different kinds of technical writings. In the book, she mentioned the most important quality is to be confident in your ability to learn. That's true. And she recommends online tutorials for learning different software programs. The book also offers lists of the equipment that is useful for being a technical writer and offers tips on making discount purchases at online auctions and stores. Needless to say, the book includes success stories of people who started out as average people and successfully became technical writers.

Susan really laid out all the information anyone needs to know about getting started in technical writing in an easy-to-read, enjoyable book. Originally, I was a little nervous about diving into a different and new career at my age, but Susan took all my worries away. By the time I finished reading it, I was excited about all the opportunities in technical writing that lay before me and couldn't wait to get started. Now I have a software owner's manual to write, and that's just the beginning, all thanks to Susan!!!
