    Book details

A directory to crafts market places includes information on getting started selling crafts, financial considerations, selling through the mail, direct sales, and selling wholesale

Covering craft shows, craft malls, mail order, retailers, craft brokers, and even Internet sales, Crafts Market Place is jam-packed with information. Part one details general marketing aspects, pricing and other financial concerns, publicity, and various sales outlets and opportunities. The extremely useful second part consists of market listings for hundreds of craft shows and malls, catalog companies, retailers and galleries, and craft reps all over the country. The entries are complete with contact information, business descriptions, craft categories sold, price ranges, advertising, and application processes. Part three is also a business-by-business listing--again with full contact information and thorough descriptions--of related business products, services (such as accounting, insurance, and legal entities), trade organizations, and craft-related publications. Crafts Market Place is an excellent resource for crafters who are seeking to explore many different types of marketing opportunities. Craft marketing has become big business. Crafters, often concerned mainly with production, need to know where to market their products and how to obtain a fair price that gives them a good return. Crafts Marketplace is an annotated directory of shows, wholesale shops, galleries, and service organizations. Entries give addresses; phone, FAX, and E-mail numbers; description of business; and requirements for acceptance of the craft material to be sold. Ramsey's (The Upstart Guide to Owning and Running a Florist Business, Upstart, 1995) book lays out pricing in dollars and cents for many kinds of handmade items and offers tips for streamlining production time and labor?the major element in craft pricing. He includes an appendix of useful forms for record keeping. Both these books are valuable resources for crafters researching their markets and preparing goods for sale.Copyright 1997 Reed Business Information, Inc.

I think this book should not have been sold for anything but paper to recycle. Not pleased with it at all. Was looking for a book with websites in it, this one is too old for that. Way out of date.

The book is helpful for those who are selling crafts for a hobby. For a true professional like myself, a found that it to be less informative than the book "How to Market Your Crafts to Retail Stores" by Dave Malby.
